RARE now-a-days 1940's stamps on cheques (banking fee) during WW II and after...for parish needs...
This item is a set consisting of 12 stamps on 12 checks: 1947
...one each month of the year...
You will find that these checks were issued from a parish in Sherbrooke City in Québec, Canada, called "Fabrique de l'Immaculée Conception" or Les Oeuvres paroissiales or by the Father in charge of the local church, at their local bank : Banque Canadienne Nationale (now Banque Nationale du Canada)
You will find also that, this very particular item, is focused on parish needs...and for a decade...
It is like a little of history left on stamps and checks
Stamps are Scott 252 and FX 64
PLEASE NOTICE THE DATE ON THE BACK OF CHECKS FOR CLEARING. In this paricular item we see 6 different banking institutions of that time:Banque Canadienne Nationale, the Bank of Montreal, Royal Bank of Canada, Bank of Nova Scotia, Caisse Centrale Desjardins ans Montreal City&District Savings Bank.
You will notice that :
- all cheques are signed by Father Arsène Goyette...
-February cheque is for Caisse Nationale d'Économie with special mention "Sans Protêt"
-March cheque is "ringing buttons"
-May...monthly pay
-June...Abbé Cabana's salary...
-July cheque....has NO YEAR ...
-September cheque is for purchasing "Church's clean-up merchandising"
-November cheque for heating oil...
-and December cheque...is for Insurance of the parish...
